Jennifer Lopez has been in a number of high-profile relationships, but her time with Ben Affleck is perhaps most well-known. After all, they were previously engaged. In 2002, Affleck proposed with a pink diamond ring that reportedly cost $1.7 million. They didn’t end up getting married bak then, but J-Lo has admitted how impressed she was with the ring, even today.
Of course, expensive engagement rings weren’t just purchased in the present. In 1955, Grace Kelly was given two from her fiancé, Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The second one, the more expensive of the two, was a 10.48-carat, emerald-cut diamond worth $4.3 million. The pair had met while Kelly was promoting one of her films and the prince proposed in less than a year.
Paris Hilton’s been engaged multiple times, but only recently tied the knot with Carter Reum. Even so, it was her former fiancé Chris Zylka that got her the most expensive ring. When they got engaged in 2018, he got her a pear-cut, giant diamond ring for $2 million. They split up a couple of months later. The one Reum gave Hilton was only $1 million.
The end of Jackie and John Kennedy’s marriage was marked in tragedy. But before then, their relationship was one for the ages. They were engaged in 1953, with Jackie going to pick out her own engagement ring at Van Cleef & Arpels in New York. She ended up picking one out for that cost $1 million. It wasn’t a traditional ring, consisting of diamonds and emeralds. She later even had it revamped to include marquise diamonds. As happy as she was with the ring, Jackie wasn’t much of one for showing it off.
Tom Cruise has been one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood for decades now. After a pretty bad split from Nicole Kidman, Cruise ended up marrying Katie Holmes. They had a big age gap, but he was head-over-heels. So much so that he got her a 5.5-carat oval diamond for $2 million as an engagement ring. This was just seven weeks after they had met. They’re not married anymore, but their marriage actually lasted six years.
Serena Williams is one of the richest tennis players of all time. Not only has she made her own fortune on the court, but has also managed to find a wealthy husband in the form Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. He asked her to marry him in 2016, proposing with a 12 carat ring that cost around $2 million. She said yes and they’ve been married since 2017.
When Beyonce married Jay-Z in 2008, the event was so low-key that it hadn’t even been announced. Fans hadn’t even known they were engaged. After it became public knowledge though, more information became available. Including how expensive the engagement ring was. It was a 24-carat diamond that cost $5 million. That made it one of the largest and most expensive engagement rings in Hollywood history.
Christina Aguilera was married to Jordan Bratman from 2005 to 2011. While things didn’t work out, Aguilera was clearly pleased when he popped the question. She showed off her engagement ring to plenty of photographers. It was a $2.5 million diamond in a vintage style. It fit Aguilera’s aesthetic perfectly.
Elizabeth Taylor had a notable love of jewelry, almost as notable as her acting talent. And her relationship with Richard Burton was perhaps her most infamous love affair. Burton bought the Krupp diamond for Taylor in 1968 and had it set into a ring. She constantly flaunted the $1 million ring, every chance she had. Technically, Taylor and Burton had married four years prior to his purchase of the Krupp diamond. Even so, it’s still called her “engagement” ring.
