Wrestling Couples Who Were Together In Real Life - The Delite

Wrestling Couples Who Were Together In Real Life

At the risk of ruining professional wrestling for anyone, it’s a widely known fact that not everything that happens in the ring is completely legitimate. The winners of the matches are decided ahead of time, many of the things said on screen are scripted ahead of time and the wrestlers themselves do plenty of acting once they are in front of an audience.

Wrestlers who are billed as family members may not be related at all and the same goes for wrestlers who are billed as romantic couples. However, there have been plenty of wrestlers who were actually a couple when the matches ended each night — even if they weren’t played as a couple in the ring.

Here are some of the most famous wrestling couples in history.

Stephanie McMahon & Triple H

One of the most powerful couples in wrestling history, WWE star Triple H and the company’s chief brand officer, Stephanie McMahon, have been going strong behind the scenes for more than 15 years.

In 1999, the two were involved in an infamous storyline on WWE television that involved Triple H marrying McMahon after drugging her and taking her to a drive-through chapel in Las Vegas. They began legitimately dating about a year later and got married in 2003.

Linda McMahon & Vince McMahon

Stephanie’s parents, Vince and Linda McMahon, are another super-famous wrestling couple who’ve done plenty of acting on screen that might make you think their actual marriage was deeply troubled. Vince, WWE’s longtime CEO, and Linda, who formerly held that powerful title, got married in 1966 after having dated since they were teenagers.

On screen, the McMahons have had some memorable fights, including Vince being caught in many compromising situations with other women and Linda memorably slapping her husband across the face during a match.

Nikki Bella & John Cena

Unlike the first two couples on the list, this WWE power couple never made it down the aisle. John Cena and Nikki Bella — two of the company’s most popular champions ever — dated for six years before calling it quits in a high-profile split in 2018.

The couple even got engaged in the most classic wrestling way imaginable, with Cena kneeling down in the ring at WrestleMania 33 and proposing after they’d won a mixed tag-team match together.

Brie Bella & Daniel Bryan

Like her twin sister, Brie Bella has also had a high-profile relationship with a fellow wrestler but hers has stood the test of time so far. Bella married WWE fan-favorite Daniel Bryan in 2014 at a ceremony full of wrestlers, including their would-be brother-in-law John Cena.

The pair’s wedding could be seen on an episode of the popular E! reality series, “Total Divas,” on which Bella was a star. On screen, Bryan has been linked to former WWE star AJ Lee but that was all for show, as she has her own wrestler hubby in real life.

AJ Lee & CM Punk

AJ Lee was one of the most popular women in WWE during her time with the company in the early 2010s and her real-life husband, CM Punk, was arguably the most popular man in the company at the same time.

This modern wrestling power couple worked together on screen during their careers but Lee was also romantically linked to several other wrestlers in various storylines. Behind the scenes, the couple got married in 2014 and remain together today, both retired from the business.

Brock Lesnar & Sable

In the late 1990s heyday of WWE, Sable was incredibly popular, with her appearances in Playboy selling a historic number of issues for the magazine. In the 2000s, Brock Lesnar burst into the company and became one of its most popular champions — a status he continues to maintain to this day.

The couple never had a romantic storyline together on WWE television but got married in 2006 and share two sons together.

Booker T & Sharmell

When Booker T won WWE’s King of the Ring tournament in 2006 and dubbed himself “King Booker” and his onscreen love interest “Queen Sharmell,” he wasn’t kidding. The two popular superstars, who’ve worked together in WWE, WCW and TNA over the years, have been an actual couple since 2000. The pair got married in 2005, with Booker T popping the question while Sharmell was washing the dishes, as she told Essence. “I fell in love with him because he’s a wonderful, kind person,” she said to the magazine.

Miss Elizabeth & Randy Savage

When you think of wrestling couples, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth have to be one of the first that come to mind. The two worked wonderfully together on screen in WWE during the 1980s and even got married in the ring at SummerSlam 1991 in what has been described as one of the company’s most memorable moments ever.

In real life, the pair had been married since 1984 but would get divorced in 1992, a development that broke many a wrestling fan’s heart.

Andrade & Charlotte Flair

Two of the most talented wrestlers in WWE today are a legitimate tag team behind the scenes. Women’s division icon Charlotte Flair has been dating up-and-coming grappler Andrade since at least early 2019. Rumors have swirled that the pair is engaged but that’s not been confirmed by either of them. It wouldn’t be Flair’s first marriage to a fellow wrestler, as she was married to former TNA star Bram from 2013 to 2015.

Becky Lynch & Seth Rollins

Another marquee couple in WWE right now is Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. “The Man” and her beau are arguably the biggest stars the company has right now and the fact that they are a legitimate couple has been played up in storylines.

Lynch and Rollins have been dating for much of 2019 and announced their engagement in August. Lynch hails from Ireland and Rollins from Iowa, so it’s the kind of pairing that could’ve probably only happened in show business!

Brandi Rhodes & Cody Rhodes

Brandi and Cody Rhodes make up one of the most powerful wrestling couples in the business today. The couple effectively run All Elite Wrestling together, with Brandi serving as chief brand officer and Cody as executive vice president of the hot, new promotion.

They’ve been married since 2013, when both were working for WWE. They went on to wrestle together for TNA and Ring of Honor before helping start AEW.

Diamond Dallas Page & Kimberly

In the 1990s, Diamond Dallas Page was arguably the biggest star in WCW, the chief rival promotion of WWE. During his entire legendary run with the company, he was married to Kimberly, who appeared as his ringside valet under the awful nickname, “The Diamond Doll.”

DDP’s character was a total jerk to Kimberly on TV every week but they stayed together behind the scenes until 2005, when they got divorced.

Michelle McCool & Undertaker

Given the nature of his menacing onscreen persona as a mythical dead man who’s somehow been raised back to life, the Undertaker has never really been involved in a romantic storyline in WWE. But behind the scenes, the legendary wrestler has been married to fellow grappler Michelle McCool since 2010.

McCool was one of WWE’s top women in the late 2000s and Undertaker has been a mainstay with the company since the early 1990s, making them a legitimate power couple in the business.

They even have a daughter together, which further undercuts the idea of Undertaker being the scariest man on Earth.

Debra & Steve Austin

In the late 1990s, there was no wrestler in the world as popular as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and he remains arguably the best wrestler in WWE history. At the height of his fame, Austin was married to fellow WWE wrestler, Debra, from 1998 to 2003.

Both were champions in the company at the time of their marriage. The marriage ended after Austin physically abused Debra multiple times, which she later attributed to steroid-related mood swings.

Tyson Kidd & Natalya

Natalya Neidhart and Tyson Kidd are a pair of Canadian WWE superstars who’ve been a couple outside the ring for a long time. They started dating in about 2003 and eventually got married in 2013 in a ceremony that was televised in an episode of “Total Divas.”

Natalya has remained a constant presence in WWE for years while Kidd retired from wrestling after a devastating injury in 2015 but still works for the company behind the scenes.

Maryse & The Miz

One of WWE’s most popular couples, both in the ring and outside of it, is this made-for-TV pairing. Maryse and The Miz have been two of the biggest villains in the wrestling business for the better part of a decade.

She’s French Canadian while he’s from Ohio but the two larger-than-life personalities have been a great match, getting married in 2014 and having two daughters together since then. The pair even star in their own USA Network reality series, “Miz and Mrs.”

Chyna & X-Pac

Two icons of ’90s-era wrestling, Chyna and X-Pac were a real-life couple for a few years after their heyday in WWE. Both wrestlers were members of the iconic wrestling group, Degeneration X, but were never played as a romantic pair in any storylines. They started dating in the early 2000s, eventually getting engaged before breaking up in 2005, according to TMZ.

Chyna, who was regarded as one of the most intimidating wrestlers in history, tragically died in 2016 and X-Pac has never stopped praising her in interviews.

Lana & Rusev

Lana and Rusev are another current WWE couple that has given fans a look into their real-life relationship through the reality series “Total Divas.” This interesting pair is linked as a tandem in the ring but have been legitimately married since 2016.

Rusev is billed as “The Bulgarian Brute” and he’s actually from Bulgaria, while Lana’s persona as a Russian femme fatale is all storyline, since she was born in Florida. When they tied the knot, they had one wedding in America and another one in Bulgaria.

Naomi & Jimmy Uso

This is yet another couple that WWE fans witnessed getting married on “Total Divas.” Naomi and Jimmy Uso dated for four years before getting married in 2014, making them one of the longer-lasting current pairings at the top of the business.

Both of them are mainstays on WWE TV and their marriage has been used in several storylines, including a recent one where another wrestler tried to get Uso to cheat with her, only for Naomi to beat her up.

In real life, Naomi says their popularity in the ring has led to busier schedules and has made it tougher to be as romantic as they were when they first got together.

Edge & Lita

One of the more infamous romantic storylines in WWE history was actually based in reality. Legendary women’s champion Lita had been in a real-life relationship with fellow WWE superstar Matt Hardy for several years when she got into an affair with Edge, who was married at the time.

WWE ended up using that actual scenario in a feud between Hardy and Edge several years later, with Lita and the latter having a highly sexualized on-screen relationship that matched the one they had behind the scenes.

Lita later dated CM Punk while Edge got involved with another wrestler.

Edge & Beth Phoenix

Speaking of “The Rated-R Superstar,” Edge eventually started dating fellow WWE star Beth Phoenix, aka “The Glamazon.” The two wrestling icons got married in 2016 and have two daughters together.

They constantly share cute pictures of the girls on Instagram … when they aren’t sharing adorable ones of each other, as Phoenix did in the shot below.

Edge and Phoenix are also both in the WWE Hall of Fame, which makes them the only married couple to have that honor.

Jon Moxley & Renee Young

One of the most popular couples in wrestling today actually spans two rival companies. Jon Moxley from AEW, formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE, has been married to WWE commentator Renee Young since 2017.

They got married in a secret ceremony in their backyard at 1 a.m. after having dated for more than three years. The pair’s real-life relationship made things a little awkward on screen for Young as Moxley was playing a reckless villain before eventually leaving WWE for AEW in 2019 in a highly publicized move.

Young’s Instagram page is full of great photos of the two of them, like this one that shows Moxley looking very mischievous.

Maria Kanellis & Mike Kanellis

Maria Kanellis is one of the funniest and most intense wrestlers in WWE and her relationship with actual husband Mike Kanellis has been used in some memorable storylines. During the shows, Mike’s character is extremely henpecked, constantly being berated by Maria in the ring and even taking her last name as his own (their actual last name is Bennett, which is his own name).

On TV, their relationship is always tense and one-sided but in real life, they appear to be a very happy couple who love working together and raising their two children.

This jab that Maria posted on Instagram shows how playful their dynamic seems to be at home.

JoJo & Bray Wyatt

If you look at the Instagram account of WWE wrestler and announcer JoJo, you’ll see a bunch of great pictures of her beautiful son, who was born in 2019. The child came as the result of her behind-the-scenes relationship with wrestler Bray Wyatt.

The relationship came under scrutiny when Wyatt’s ex-wife alleged he’d been seeing JoJo during their marriage but things seem to be going well between the two WWE stars now.

This Instagram post from JoJo was a birthday message for Wyatt, showing some pictures of them together before and after the boy was born.

Alexa Bliss & Buddy Murphy

If you go back a couple of years in Australian WWE wrestler Buddy Murphy’s Instagram account, you’ll see plenty of sweet posts like this, showing off his relationship with then-fiancee Alexa Bliss, who is one of the company’s top talents.

Unfortunately, it was revealed the two charismatic stars quietly broke up in 2018, ending their engagement. The pair was a very public WWE couple for a few years, happily raising their pet pig together, but it apparently wasn’t meant to last for the full three-count.

Jeff Jarret & Karen Jarret

Wrestling storylines often blur the lines between reality and fiction. Jeff and Karen Jarret actually did get married in real life. Although, that also causes a bit of an awkward relationship with fellow wrestler Kurt Angle. After all, Karen used to be married to Kurt, before she was more of an onscreen presence in wrestling. Jeff and Karen have been married since 2010, only a few years after Karen’s divorce to Kurt.

Shane McMahon & Marisa Mazzola

Shane McMahon has one of the most current, enduring marriages in wrestling. That being with his wife, Marisa Mazzola. Although, their activities are more behind the scenes now. Presently, they’re more so interested in business ventures and film production. McMahon in particular is now the founder and executive chairman of Ideanomics.

Gunner & Jayme Jameson

Gunner’s more well-known by his current ring name Jaxson Ryker. But when he still went by Gunner, he was married to Jayme Jameson. Things didn’t work out between them and they divorced in 2012. Since then, Gunner changed his wrestling affiliation, ring name, and he’s gotten remarried. In this case, to Stacy Lail.

Eddie Guerrero & Vickie Guerrero

Vickie Guerrero’s been the storyline lover of multiple different wrestlers over the years, but her most notable one was with her late husband, Eddie Guerrero. The two were together from 1990 to 2005 when Eddie died. She’s since remarried to Kris Benson, as well as becoming a manager in the professional wrestling world.

Chris Benoit & Nancy Benoit

Perhaps the darkest couple on this list. Chris Benoit were married from 2000 to 2007, ending in the deaths of both of them and their son. Chris Benoit had actually murdered them both before taking his own life. While there are many theories on what drove him to do such a heinous act, no one knows for sure what drove him to such extreme measures.

Davey Richards & Angelina Love

Davey Richards has been married three times, but his most notable one was to his second wife, Angelina Love. They made quite the pair and won several different titles and awards throughout their career. But they just weren’t compatible and needed to end things. Currently, Richards is married to Melissa Richards. And Love is still single.

Jack Swagger & Saylor James

Jack Swagger has a history as both an MMA fighter and wrestler. His wife, Saylor James, is also famous in the wrestling world, although she’s better known as Catalina White in the present. The two of them have been together for a little over a decade now.

Bo Dallas & Sarah Bäckman

There are a lot of cute photos of Bo Dallas and Sarah Bäckman at their wedding. They really did seem like a power couple. However, they divorced in 2019. It turns out he was actually in a relationship with fellow wrestler Liv Morgan. Those two had actually started a real estate company to prepare for their lives after wrestling.

Charlie Haas & Jackie Gayda

Charlie Haas and Jackie Gayda were married for 15 years and had four children together. But they still had their differences, divorcing in 2020. Haas actually compared the harshness of the divorce to the feeling he had when he lost his brother in 2002. He’s moved on since then, having married Jennifer Haas in 2022.
