How Tragedy Inspired This Woman To Lose 100 Pounds

Kristina Guice transformed the pain of losing a friend into motivation to lose weight.

Weight loss is a journey. You have to seek support from others, but most importantly, believe in yourself to put in the hard work to lose weight.

For one young woman, it was the tragic loss of a friend that got her ready to make some healthy choices sooner rather than later.

Kristina Guice recently opened up to People magazine, telling them all about her path to losing 100 pounds. Apparently, Guice was always labeled as “the fat kid” in school, but in college, she met a friend who encouraged her to lose weight. It was this friend that passed away in a tragic accident and made Guice realize it was time to make a change.

#facetofacefriday: forever taking selfies in cars. 2 old ladies def watched me take this pic and looked SCANDALIZED at my millennial narcissism… Deal with it, biddies. Around the same time, Guice was also accepted into grad school in a place where no one knew her. She took that as a sign and knew it was her time to start fresh.

Back to the gym! First time in what feels like aaaaaages (probably more like a week and a half though). Quick workout today – 20 mins elliptical intervals, then leg weights. I wanted to do more but had to rush home to get ready for a doctor's appointment. It happens. A little is better than nothing! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #weightloss #weightlossjourney #keto #ketogenic #ketogeniclifestyle #ketocommunity #ketosis #ketolife #ketofam #ketogenicdiet #lchf #lowcarbhighfat #eatfatlosefat #losingweightfeelinggreat #extremeweightloss #100poundsdown

“I was like, ‘Here is my someday,'” she told the magazine. “I could go to a grad school program with people across the country who I’ve never met before, and I could be who I want to be.”

Guice says was cutting out carbs that really helped her lose the weight.

“It was carbs all day every day—cereal for breakfast, nachos or a sandwich for lunch, pizza or pasta for dinner,” she says, of her typical daily diet. “I didn’t really like vegetables so I rarely ate salad. Bread was the love of my life, and I didn’t understand what an appropriate portion was, so I was just eating however much I wanted.”

A little late but here's a special #facetofacefriday and a late #throwbackthursday AND a little bit of a #throwbackthanksgiving! Turkey day 2008 (just turned 17) vs today, 2016 (just turned 25). Even a little puffy from the carbs yesterday, maybe a few pounds up, I'm WORLDS away from how I looked on previous Thanksgivings! A family friend had to be reminded of who I was because he hadn't seen me in 3 years and I look like a different person now (but it's def still me, no body double here ????). Now, she only has carbs every now and then. Between that and starting a fitness Instagram account “for more motivation and accountability,” she’s been able to reach her goal of dropping 100 pounds.

This isn’t just her fitness journey, it’s her lifestyle. And it really seems as though she’s all the better for it. You can follow her on Instagram to show your support.
