These Photos Of Children Getting Adopted Will Melt Your Heart

These pictures are worth a million words.

Every year, approximately 435,000 children in the U.S. are in foster care and 110,000 need adoptive homes. The process is often long and emotional for everyone involved. So, when the big day arrives when an adoption is finalized in the court, it’s definitely a cause for celebration.

Here’s a collection of adoption day photos that — along with the stories behind them — are sure to warm your heart.

Hoda Kotb Welcomes Haley Joy

Who can forget the joy shared on the set of the “Today” show when it was announced that anchor Hoda Kotb had adopted a baby girl?

Haley Joy was born Feb. 14, 2017, and Kotb made the news of her arrival public a week later with the sweet snap below.

The ‘Official’ Family T-Shirt Photo

What better way to celebrate adoption day than a new family picture with totally cool family t-shirts? The Cooper family of Pennsylvania couldn’t wait to show off their new son and their growing family after the adoption was finalized.

Love At First Sight

Sometimes, a photo captures a moment so emotional, it makes the heart melt. Photographer Joanna Ballentine was there when adoptive mom Ashley met her infant son for the first time. This is the embrace of a mother who has been waiting years to share her life and her heart with her child. Stunning!

Waiting Is Hard

There’s a lot involved in the adoption process, right up to the official adoption day. This little guy is waiting for the hearing to finally end and make him an official member of the Jones family. We bet it was worth the wait!

And Baby Makes Five

Lyschel and Garren Burket had four children when they decided to become foster parents. When their prayers were answered, baby Miles came into their lives and they knew he was meant to be part of their family. They went through the adoption process and you can see how happy the entire family is to welcome Miles to the “Burket Circus.”

Super Seven

Remember the story of the “super seven?” Josh and Jessaka Clark of Georgia adopted seven siblings! With a three-year-old son already at home, they grew into a family of 10 overnight. Talk about a house full of love.

Courthouse Cheers

Photographer Sarah Mariel captured another courthouse celebration when little Ben cheered after his adoption was ruled final by the court. Aww, that smile is just too much.

‘This Is My Purpose’

Actress Sandra Bullock says her two children, Louis and Laila, are her top priority.

Despite not becoming a mother until she was 45 years old, Bullock — who says we should all stop using the term “adopted child” — always knew that she wanted to be a mom.

“Being a mom, I finally realize, ‘Oh this is what I was supposed to do when I grew up,’” she said during a “Today” interview with Hoda Kotb. “This is my purpose, and I knew it at a very young age … I felt that calling at a very young age, but I had to become the mom that I was supposed to be for the kids that were waiting for me.”

When Grandparents Become Parents

Jennifer Sue Photography was at the courthouse when friends of hers finally gained full adopted custody of their grandchildren. The little girl hugging her new daddy is pure love.

Family Love

Sophia Grace Davidson clearly has a mom and dad who adore her. After 567 days in foster care, the adorable little girl got her forever family.

A Disney Adoption Surprise

What better place to celebrate an adoption than at Walt Disney World? Well, how about it being a surprise?

You may remember the story of Courtney and Tom Gilmour, who waited three years to get word about adopting their foster children, Janielle and Elijah. Well, the couple got some exciting news before leaving for their trip and decided to surprise the kids. The rest, as they say, is viral history.

A “Grand” Introduction

There’s an undeniable, special connection between a grandmother and her grandchild. And when they meet for the first time, well, it’s magical. Photographer Melody Battista was there to capture that first moment for a family when mom and dad brought their adopted baby to meet grandma.

Tissue Time

Some pictures just don’t need much description. An amazing, poignant moment for a new family. Thanks to savvysistersphoto for sharing this gem.

From Zero To 7 Kids

DaShoan and Sofia Olds, who have no biological children of their, adopted seven biological siblings after reading news stories in 2016 about kids being split up in various foster homes. The new members of the Olds family ranged in age from 4-12 at the time of their adoption in September 2017.

“These children need a home, we have a home,” DaShoan told Inside Edition. “It’s time for us to be a blessing and take home these children.”

Adopted After 832 Days In Foster Care

This tweet from 2016 went viral when the world celebrated 3-year-old Michael Brown’s adoption right along with him.

One of his newly-official big sisters shared the photo on Twitter with the words “Forever Family.”

Two Sets Of Adopted Siblings, Plus A Foster Care-Focused Nonprofit

Rob Scheer grew up in the foster care system and, when he married his husband, they knew they wanted to start a family of their own. So they took in not one, but two sets of siblings from foster care. Their family of two quickly grew to a family of six and if you don’t have a box of tissues handy, you’d better grab one, because this story isn’t over and it is truly touching.

When Scheer himself was in the foster care system, he was given a trash bag to carry his very few belongings in. When he saw his children come into his home carrying trash bags, too, he and his husband knew they had to do something about it.

And that’s how Comfort Cases was born. Comfort Cases is a non-profit organization that donates duffel bags and book bags to children in foster care. These are quality bags that are filled with items that will make them feel more at home. Included in the bags are a toothbrush, a set of pajamas, shampoo and more.

Adding A Fifth Member To The Family

Actress Denise Richards says she felt like she wasn’t done having kids. Despite being unattached after her divorce from Charlie Sheen, Richards decided to add to her family in 2011 when she adopted her third daughter, Eloise. She joined big sisters Lola and Sam, who were 8 and 7 at the time.

Trick or Treat!

Disney Princess Adoption Surprise

On June 8, 2016, 5-year-old Danielle had her ultimate fairy tale dream come true: Not only was this little girl officially adopted by her foster parents, what made her day extra special is that her adoption agency arranged for Disney princesses to help deliver the news.

Agency staff members dressed up as Belle, Ariel and other famous princesses.

Watch the short video. Her reaction is absolutely priceless and it will make your day. Oh and make sure you have tissues handy.
