Texas Store Owner Offers Free Sandwich And Water To Anyone Who Needs It
One local hero is doing his part in the fight against hunger.
Frank Hemani is the owner of the Star Mart gas station in Emory, Texas, about an hour and a half east of Dallas. About two months ago, he decided to offer a bottle of water and a sandwich to those who needed it, after seeing a video where someone else did something similar.
He posted a sign about it in his gas station, and Hemani says he’s handed out about five-to-six sandwiches a week so far.
Hemani told KLTV that there’s no excuse for kids going hungry, especially in the U.S.:
It’s really nice to help the community out because there’s sometimes that maybe I went hungry. I don’t think the kids in this country or anywhere in the world has to wait for Christmas to get good stuff and I think they should get it whenever they deserve (it).
Hemani said he will extend the practice to his other stores. Store employee Andrea Wissman added to KLTV, “We all go through hard times from time to time, so it’s nice to have something good.”
We second that emotion. Maybe a small gesture in rural Texas can turn into a much bigger thing.
