America's certainly not the first country to install these, but I, for one, am glad that we are finally getting around to it. Thanks to companies like KaBOOM, we're starting to see a trend pick up the in the United States.
It not only promotes health and wellness, but also a spirit of play for all ages. That's right, outdoor playgrounds for senior citizens are what's hopefully going to become the next fitness craze.
The equipment is all about low-impact exercise and exercise to improve one's hand-eye coordination. The parks aren't just for the elderly, either. They're âmultigenerationalâ and great for the entire family to enjoy.
Sarah Pinsky, Director of Client Services at KaBOOM! told the Huffington Post that, âPlay is a great connector for adults and seniors and the children in their lives. In addition to the cognitive and physical benefits of play, it can also reduce stress in adults and is proven to help combat toxic stress in kids.â
I think this is just a brilliant thing to have nearby because it sure beats having to pay for a gym membership, and it's a way for people of all ages to coexist and get a little exercise.
Personally, I'm all for exercise that doesn't seem like exercise, and these âplaygroundsâ seem like they'd be just as much fun as they are hard work. That's right up my alley!
Senior Planet also reports that after being active on the playground, "The seniors were more confident and moved faster, and felt empowered to manage physical obstacles when they met them."
According to Mental Floss, KaBOOM has already built 53 parks across America, and hopefully this will only gain momentum and popularity. Because you're never too old to let yourself feel like a kid again.
And if swinging on a swing doesn't take you way back to those childhood years, then I don't know what will.
