A Heartbreaking Photo Inspired The Internet To Donate $300,000 To An 89-Year-Old Man

While it sometimes doesn't seem it, the internet can come together and do amazing things.  A tear-jerking photo of an man pushing a popsicle cart is the latest instance showing the power and love the world can offer.

Joel Cervantes Macias was driving in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago and noticed an elderly man struggling to push his popsicle cart.  After snapping the picture, he bought 20 popsicles from the man for $50. Carlos then posted the picture on Facebook and received an overwhelming response.  At that point, he knew he wanted to do something else to help.

"That one picture had so much to say, and people really responded to it," Macias told DNA Info. "It communicated so many things — poverty, struggle, pride — it's like it spoke more words than any amount of writing could."

Upon further investigation, Macias discovered the man, Fedencio Sanchez and his wife has recently lost their daughter. His wife had been selling popsicles to help pay the bills. Unfortunately, she became wife ill and was unable to work, so Fedencio stepped in to help.

After hearing the details, Macias and a friend launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money and cover the expenses.

The outpouring was pretty remarkable and the internet has raised over $300,000 to help the family. Great job, internet!

Here's a video that shows some of the media attention Fedencio is now receiving.
