Memorable Celebrity Halloween Costumes

When it comes to Halloween, nobody does it like an A-lister. Sure, they probably have all sorts of stylists and makeup artists helping them create their costume for Oct. 31. But the rest of us can benefit from the finished look, too – by using their costumes to inspire our own.

Forget about ghosts, witches and skeletons, these 30 memorable celebrity Halloween costumes are truly on another level.

Heidi Klum As An Old Lady

In 2013, supermodel-turned-TV-star Heidi Klum attended her 14th annual Halloween party looking a lot wrinklier than she normally does. With clever makeup and prosthetics to age her skin – complete with varicose veins — Klum genuinely passed for a woman decades older than her 39 years (at the time). She proved that for a truly memorable costume, it’s all about the details.

Ciara And Russell Wilson As Beyoncé And Jay Z

Ciara and Russell Wilson turned into another celebrity couple for Halloween 2019 – Beyoncé and Russell Wilson. Ciara and Russell modeled their look on Bey and Jay’s “Apeshit” music video, complete with bright suits and stacks of bling. However, they made one significant change – instead of the Mona Lisa in the background (the music video was filmed in the Louvre art gallery in Paris), they hung a portrait of Barack and Michelle Obama on the wall behind them.

Kat Graham As The Mask

Actress Kat Graham is best known for her role as Bonnie Bennett on The CW supernatural drama series “The Vampire Diaries.” But a vampire costume would be far too predictable. For Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party in New York in 2018, Graham turned into The Mask, from the 1994 Jim Carrey movie of the same name.

Heidi Klum As A Transformer

When you’re as obsessed with Halloween as Heidi Klum is, you’ve got to set the bar high on the costume front. For her 2010 party, Klum dressed as an eight-foot-tall Transformer. Not only did she wear head-to-toe latex, she walked down an entire red carpet on stilts. Her dedication to Halloween knows no bounds.

Mindy Kaling As A Beekeeper

Mindy Kaling’s choice of Halloween costume for 2016 was the sweetest ever. “My godson was a bee so I went as a beekeeper,” she wrote on Twitter, showing off her impressive outfit, complete with veil. (This would be a pretty simple one, if you happen to know a real-life beekeeper.)

Neil Patrick Harris And Family As ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ Characters

Another family that always pulls out all the stops on Halloween is Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka and their kids, twins Harper and Gideon. In 2012, when the twins were only 2 years old, they dressed as Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion from movie classic “The Wizard of Oz.” Since then, they’ve recreated scenes from “Star Wars” and “Alice in Wonderland” and dressed as real-life art icons Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol.

Gigi Hadid As Sandy From ‘Grease’

Model Gigi Hadid dressed as Sandy from “Grease” for Heidi Klum’s 2015 Halloween extravaganza. No doubt Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy in the 1978 movie alongside John Travolta as her love interest Danny, would have approved of Hadid’s ensemble. Just like Sandy, she sported a head of curls, a pair of red sandal heels and some very tight, very shiny spandex leggings.

LeBron James As Pennywise

If “terrifying” is your mark of a great Halloween costume, you’ll rate LeBron James as Pennywise, shown here from DJ Steph Floss’ Twitter account, the dancing clown and villain from the Stephen King book and movie “IT,” highly. Not that you’d know it was James under that scary getup. According to the ClevelandFanz Twitter account, James “didn’t just dress up he transformed into Pennywise.”

Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka As Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen

David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris left the kids at home to attend Heidi Klum’s 2019 Halloween party. But they still made an impact without their small sidekicks. Their Mary-Kate (Patrick) and Ashley (Burtka) Olsen costumes were one of the highlights of the red carpet.

Gabrielle Union-Wade And Dwayne Wade As Milli Vanilli

For Halloween 2017, Gabrielle Union-Wade and Dwayne Wade dressed up as Milli Vanilli. With their Grammy awards and bright colored suits, they performed a dance routine worthy of any ’90s R&B duo. Their look was such a hit, Essence declared that it “wins Halloween 2017.”

Bette Midler As Marie Antionette

Another celebrity who hosts an annual Halloween party is Better Midler. In 2017, the actress attended her “Hulaween Party,” hosted by the New York Restoration Project, dressed as Marie Antionette. Her incredible costume recreated the look of the former Queen of France perfectly, from the flower embellishments on her gown to the butterflies in her towering hair.

Jessica Simpson As Willie Nelson

Jessica Simpson has more in common with Willie Nelson than might first meet the eye. They’re both originally from Texas and share a love of pigtails. In 2017, Simpson dressed as Nelson for Halloween, with husband Eric Johnson continuing the theme as country music star Waylon Jennings. The following year, Simpson performed a duet with Nelson during the Orange County Fair in California.

Mel B And Gary Madatyan As Victoria And David Beckham

It was a pretty makeshift attempt, but Mel B’s costume for Halloween 2018 made the headlines for all sorts of reasons. The former Scary Spice dressed as Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and was accompanied by her friend Gary Madatyan, who was – of course – Victoria’s husband David Beckham. The real talking point was the sign Mel held up, which read, “No I am not going on tour” – a subtle dig at her former bandmate, perhaps?

Kim Kardashian West And Scott Disick As Sonny And Cher

When you’re a Kardashian, Halloween party season typically involves several different costumes. You can’t wear the same one twice, right? In 2017, Kim Kardashian West revealed that her favorite costume was Sonny and Cher, which she created with the help of Scott Disick.

Zac Posen As Willy Wonka

Fashion designer Zac Posen suited up for Heidi Klum’s 2018 Halloween party. He walked the black carpet as Willy Wonka, from Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” From the purple coat to the curly wig, Posen nailed it.

Ciara And Russell Wilson As ‘Black Panther’ Cast

In 2018, Ciara and Russell Wilson made Halloween a family affair. Together with their daughter Sienna Princess and Ciara’s eldest child, Future Zahir Wilbur, they recreated a superhero scene as “Black Panther” cast members. They all looked great, but Ciara stole the show as Nakia.

Kylie Jenner As Ariel

Kylie Jenner made a fantastic Disney mermaid for Halloween 2019. She rocked the Ariel look with flowing red hair and a shell bikini. And of course, being Kylie Jenner, she used the opportunity to plug her Kylie Cosmetics “mermaid glam bundle.”

Judith Light As Marlene Dietrich

Actress, producer and activist Judith Light stole the show at Bette Midler’s 2019 Hulaween party, which had the theme “Haunted Hollywood.” Light had the black suit, the cigarette, the eyebrows and the red lip. She also had Dietrich’s signature pout and swagger, which is a little harder to achieve.

Heidi Klum As Princess Fiona From ‘Shrek’

Heidi Klum made an impact as Princess Fiona from the animated movie “Shrek,” with her now-husband Tom Kaulitz looking pretty great on her arm as Shrek himself. Klum required a full body of green prosthetics to transform into the female ogre.

Dwayne Johnson as Hulk

"Don't make me angry.." "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" ~ The People's Hulk Happy Halloween!

Posted by Dwayne The Rock Johnson on Wednesday, October 31, 2012

It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Hulk. He already has the muscles. But even so, the actor won Halloween 2012 with his superhero look. “Don’t make me angry.. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry” ~ The People’s Hulk. Happy Halloween!” Johnson wrote on Facebook.

Emily Ratajkowski As Marge Simpson

Emily Ratajkowski’s 2015 Halloween costume made the leggy model even taller. Ratajkowski transformed into the world’s favorite cartoon mom, Marge Simpson. But while she replicated Marge’s towering blue hair and red beads, she chopped a few inches off her dress.

Bruce Willis As The Twins From ‘The Shining’

For director M. Night Shyamalan’s 2017 Halloween party, Bruce Willis dressed as the twins from “The Shining” with a little help from a man believed to be his assistant, Stephen J. Eads. They wore wigs, dresses and knee socks to transform into the spooky sisters, and their beards made it even scarier. Fellow partygoer Samuel L. Jackson was so impressed with the result, he shared a photo on Twitter.

Winnie Harlow As RuPaul

For Halloween 2018, model Winnie Harlow recreated drag legend RuPaul’s 1994 MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam campaign. Harlow recreated the Viva Glam images that featured in the official MAC campaign at the time, posting it to Twitter alongside the original RuPaul campaign collage. “V I V A G L A M,” she wrote in her tweet. It was such a hit, that the following year Harlow became the new face of MAC Viva Glam. If that’s not manifestation, what is?

Heidi Klum As A Klone Of Herself

If you need more proof that Heidi Klum actually is the Queen of Halloween, check out her costume from her 2016 party. Ok, so if she was alone, she’d just be Heidi Klum in a bodysuit. But she wasn’t alone — far from it. Klum assembled a posse of “clones” for the event, and they actually look just like her. Spectacular.

Tracee Ellis Ross As Red From ‘Us’ (In ‘Blackish’)

For Halloween 2019, Tracee Ellis Ross paid tribute to the biggest horror movie of the year. For the “Black-ish” Halloween episode — which always features the Johnson family dressing up amazing movie-inspired costumes — Ellis Ross became Lupita Nyong’o’s ghastly character in Jordan Peele’s “Us.” “Another year, another costume,” Ellis Ross wrote on Twitter alongside the eerie picture.

Catherine Zeta Jones And Michael Douglas As Jean Harlow And Lawrence Of Arabia

Catherine Zeta Jones channeled Kitty Packard, Jean Harlow’s character in 1933’s “Dinner at Eight,” for Bette Midler’s 2019 “Hulaween” bash. Meanwhile, her husband Michael Douglas was T.E. Lawrence, played by Peter O’Toole in the 1962 epic “Lawrence of Arabia.” Their throwback looks were the perfect fit for Midler’s theme — “Haunted Hollywood — The Golden Age.”

Lupita Nyong’o As Dionne From ‘Clueless’

Possibly the most iconic celebrity Halloween costume from recent years is Lupita Nyong’o as Dionne Davenport from 1995’s “Clueless.” Dressed in a black and white skirt and blazer with a red cardigan and nose ring, and with a huge glittery cell phone straight out of the ’90s, Nyong’o perfectly encapsulated the feisty character played by Stacey Dash. She even wore green contact lenses and carried a tiny black bag.
