J. Lo’s Most Memorable Red Carpet Moments

Whether she’s rocking a skin-baring, cutout dress or a flowy, chiffon gown, Jennifer Lopez never fails to turn heads with her sense of style. Throughout her lengthy career, the megastar has pulled off some unforgettable looks, from simple and classic to downright daring.

Here’s a look back at some her most memorable moments on the red carpet.

1997: The Premiere of ‘Selena’

Lopez impressed many with her first major movie role in “Selena” — and her fashion at the premiere didn’t disappoint either. For one of her first big red carpet appearances, the actress looked dazzling in this sequin gown, topped with a fuzzy shrug.

1997: Academy Awards

For her very first Academy Awards, Lopez looked every bit like the megastar she would soon become. The actress stunned in this beaded Badgley Mischka dress, marking the beginning of many years of glamorous Oscar gowns.

1998: CFDA Awards

From very early on in her career, Lopez has proven that she knows how to rock a form-fitting gown. The actress put her fashion sense on display at the 17th Annual CFDA awards with this sheer, sparkly black number from Randolph Duke.

2000: MTV VMAs

Lopez took home the award for Best Dance Video for her song, “Waiting For Tonight,” at the 2000 VMAs. Before winning the prize, though, the singer earned plenty of attention for her rhinestoned, midriff-baring outfit, which matched the all-white attire of her date and then-boyfriend Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. Almost two decades later, you can still see people donning replicas of the outfit as a Halloween costume.

2000: Grammy Awards

Lopez delivered one of the most iconic moments in fashion history at the 2000 Grammys. The singer’s song “Waiting For Tonight” was nominated for Best Dance Recording that year, but all anyone could talk about was her super-low-cut, navel-baring green Versace dress. The outfit sparked a nationwide frenzy, put fashion tape on the map and inspired the creation of Google Images.

2001: MTV VMAs

You gotta give it to J.Lo — she’s never afraid to rock a trend (or three). Only she would be bold enough to wear this daring ensemble, which features leopard print, thigh-high black boots and a tan, floppy hat.

2002: The Premiere of ‘Enough’

Lopez’s famous dewy glow (now widely known as the “J.Lo glow”) was on full display at the premiere of her 2002 movie, “Enough.” The actress wore a blush pink, embroidered dress with billowy three-quarter sleeves that perfectly complemented her rosy makeup. Topping off the look? A white flower pinned to her side-swept curls.

2003: Academy Awards

Lopez looked gorgeous and glowing while attending the 2003 Academy Awards with then-boyfriend Ben Affleck. For the event, the actress wore a flowy one-shoulder, mint green Valentino dress. Between the standout color, the stunning embroidery and the dewy makeup (check out the matching greenish eyeshadow!), it’s easy to see why many call this one of her best looks.

2004: Golden Globe Awards

Lopez can make any shade pop, as seen with the light orange Michael Kors dress she wore to the 2004 Golden Globes. The hue offsets her luminous, sun-kissed skin and while gold jewelry, and a low ponytail completed the look.

2006: MTV VMAs

Leave it to Lopez to pull off this bold, metallic mini dress with a matching head wrap. With billowy sleeves, big jewelry and sky-high leather boots, the star is channeling some serious ’70s-era glamour.

2009: Golden Globe Awards

Lopez appropriately went full-on gold for the 2009 Golden Globes. The star made a dazzling entrance to the red carpet with a draping Marchesa gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewels in the same shiny hue.

2011: Grammy Awards

For the 2011 Grammys, Lopez (literally) shone like a diamond. The singer stunned alongside then-husband Marc Anthony in a silver metallic micro-mini that showed off her toned legs. Completing the disco ball effect? Sky-high glittery heels, a shiny clutch and some dazzling diamond rings.

2011: BAFTA Brits To Watch Awards

Lopez showed off her enviable abs with this emerald green, cut-out design from Emilio Pucci. In addition to featuring a side slit, the dress also featured a single, bejeweled sleeve.

2011: Golden Globe Awards

A classic white dress doesn’t have to be boring, as Lopez proved at the 2011 Golden Globes. The Zuhair Murad gown is simple but elegant, particularly with the additional standout touch of the sheer, beaded cape.

2011: Golden Globes After-Party

Lopez stepped up her fashion game for the 2011 Golden Globes. In addition to the lovely white gown she wore on the red carpet, she donned another memorable look for the after-party. The actress and singer looked ready to dance in this blush pink, feathered Marchesa gown.

2011: Met Gala

Lopez stunned at the 2011 Met Gala thanks to this romantic, ruby-hued Gucci gown. The most standout piece of the ensemble? The beautiful hand-cut flower shrug, which gave the more traditional red carpet look a special touch.

2013: Grammy Awards

For the 2013 Grammys, Lopez went with a classic black dress but kept things trendy with an interesting one-shoulder, high-slit silhouette. With sky-high heels, some dazzling jewelry and a sleek topknot, the star looked elegant and a little edgy — perfect for the Grammys.

2014: MTV VMAs

Dazzling sequins, sexy silhouettes and lots of cutouts are all a big part of Lopez’s fashion m.o. So it’s no surprise that she chose this daring metallic silver dress from Charbel Zoe to wear to the 2014 VMAs.

2014: Billboard Music Awards

Lopez showed up in style to receive the Icon Award at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The actress made a splash in this sheer, ruby Donna Karan dress with a low-cut top and high slits.

2015: Academy Awards

Talk about a fairytale moment. Lopez looked just like a princess in this bedazzled Elie Saab ballgown at the 2015 Oscars. She later dubbed it one of her favorite red carpet looks of all time.

2015: Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Lopez donned a second winning look for the 2015 Vanity Fair post-Oscar party. The actress looked drop-dead gorgeous in this sheer beaded gown from Zuhair Murad.

2015: Billboard Music Awards

Lopez isn’t shy about showing some skin, as evidenced by her outfit at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. The entertainer put her curves on display in this sheer peek-a-boo gown from Charbel Zoe. She amped up the look with smokey eye makeup and a tousled wavy hairstyle.

2016: Golden Globe Awards

Lopez was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour at the 2016 Golden Globes. The bright marigold color isn’t a hue we often see on the red carpet, but Lopez pulls it off effortlessly. Topped with a cape-like silhouette and a Harry Winston crystal tie, the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture number makes for one of the most memorable gowns she’s ever worn.

2016: ‘American Idol’ Finale

After serving as a judge on “American Idol” for several seasons, Jennifer Lopez helped commemorate the end of the show’s run on Fox. For the special episode, Lopez wore a dramatic champagne Elie Madi gown, accessorized with matching sparkly heels.

2017: Met Gala

Lopez showed off her softer side in an ethereal, pastel blue Valentino Haute Couture gown. The entertainer rocked the look at the 2017 Met Gala, during which she made her red carpet debut with boyfriend Alex Rodriguez. Clearly, she dressed for the occasion!

2017: NBC Upfronts

Lopez turned heads while promoting her dancing competition series, “World of Dance,” in this millennial pink, off-the-shoulder Elie Saab dress. She completed the outfit with a matching clutch and heels, and some truly dazzling diamond rings.

2017: Billboard Latin Music Awards

Lopez again showed off her signature sexy, skin-baring style in this black Julien MacDonald dress that features plenty of cutouts. But though the dress is certainly a memorable look, it wasn’t the best part of her night. Lopez took home the award for Social Artist of the Year, plus the Telemundo Star Award.

2017: Grammy Awards

Need more proof that Lopez can pull off pretty much any color? Look no further than her 2017 Grammy dress. Lopez looks stunning in this lilac gown from Ralph & Russo, which she complemented with silver accessories.

2018: Met Gala

Once again, Lopez didn’t disappoint at the Met Gala in 2018. The star has worn plenty of memorable looks at the event over the years, and this Olivier Rousteing gown is no exception. With the blue, gold and red jeweled detailing in the shape of a cross, the dress perfectly matched the theme of the gala: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

2018: The Premiere of ‘Second Chance’

By now, you’ve probably realized that Lopez is fearless when it comes to fashion. But perhaps no dress highlights this better than the massive Giambattista Valli couture gown she wore to the premiere of her new film, “Second Act.” Somehow, Lopez manages to look right at home in the bubblegum pink ensemble with its fluffy train made from layers upon layers of tulle.
