Ignored Photos That Show A Different Side Of The 2000s

When people look back in history, they don’t tend to think about more recent events as a part of that history. The 2000s was a lot different of a time period, even in comparison to the 2010s. Here are a few photos not often seen showing how crazy, different nostalgic, and maybe even a bit less sad, that time period was.

Miley’s Sweet 16

People that grew up in the 2000s probably remember Miley Cyrus and her role on the show Hannah Montana. Nowadays, Cyrus is known as a lot more adult performer in the present. But in the past, she was a cute, young Disney star. After her show ended though she did everything in her power to shed that image. And it definitely worked.

Before The Breakup

More recently, Brad Pitt and his longtime wife Angelina Jolie got divorced. But people are less aware of his previous marriage to Jennifer Aniston. As a matter of fact, he and Aniston reportedly divorced (very bitterly as well) so that Pitt could openly date Jolie. Although, the pair have been adamant that any perceived infidelity is not the reason they split up.

Slave

At the 2001 VMAs, Britney Spears put on a performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U”. And she had a live tiger on stage for the performance. The person you can see handling the tiger in the background is Doc Antle, one of the people focused on in the documentary series Tiger King. He turned out to be one of the more abusive tiger owners in the series, both to his animals and his workers. His business was even compared to a cult.

Mike Tyson Getting His Famous Tattoo

Everyone knows who Mike Tyson is, and most of those people are also aware of the tattoo he has around his left eye. At this point in time, Mike Tyson actually said he hated himself, and had requested that his face be completely destroyed by the tattoo artist. Instead, the artist gave him this Maori-inspired design. Tyson was very happy with the final result.

Remember The Nokia?

If you don’t remember the Nokia, that’s not too surprising. The 2000s were around the time smart phones finally began popping up. Forbes had actually claimed that the Nokia would be the phone of the future. Then the first iPhone released in 2007. Now we all know just how wrong that Forbes article was.

Kobe And Vanessa

Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Laine were only 18 and 19 when they first got engaged. Vanessa was even still in high school. But a month after his proposal, he had taken home his first of five championship rings. While Bryant proved to be one of the best basketball players to play the game, his life was unexpectedly cut short in a helicopter crash. It claimed his life and that of his and Vanessa’s child.

Jason Dill In Manhattan

A common question after it happened was “where were you on 9/11?” Well, this is where pro skateboarder Jason Dill was. According to Mike Piscitelli, Dill’s friend, they had just woken up and were walking around when the planes hit. They were just hungover and in utter shock, not knowing the enormity of what they had just witnessed.

Day 1 Of The Office

The Office was a landmark television series, and one of the most loved sitcoms of the 2000s. No one knew how popular it would become, even though it was based off of an equally popular British series of the same name. The photo pictured here, as it was labeled, was from the first table read on day one of production.

Before The Premiere

There aren’t a lot of franchises like Charlie’s Angels. Starring Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz, you can see the latter two stars having a fun night out before the premiere. With a few glasses of champagne and a bottle as well. They probably had a blast.

Beyonce With Her Bodyguard

While first rising to prominence as a member of Destiny’s Child, Beyonce’s solo debut in 2003 is what really catapulted her to superstardom. While all celebrities need some form of protection while going to events, it was this meteoric rise that made sure she always needed a bodyguard. This is her’s pictured with her in the early 2000s, holding her hand to make sure they don’t get separated.

Monday Night Raw

Among other things, Lebron James and professional wrestling rose to great prominence in the 2000s. And, of course, James was one of the biggest fans of wrestling. While he’s posed with a championship belt, this photo of him filming the event Monday Night Raw may be just as interesting to look at.

The Joker

We’ve lost a lot of stars over the years, and one of them was Heath Ledger. Pictured here is Ledger in his makeup and costume as the Joker in The Dark Knight. While some people blamed the role and its darker subject matter for what led to Ledger’s overdose, those who knew him said he had a blast playing the Joker.

Mariah Carey’s Bathroom

By the time of the 2000s, Mariah Carey’s glamor as a pop star was starting to wane. And that seems to have been by design. The rigors of the music business simply started to weigh too heavily on her. A way she helped relax was decorating her bathroom. And it just so happened that her bathroom was heavily decorated with Hello Kitty memorabilia. She was apparently a very big fan.

The 2003 VMAs

At the 2003 VMAs, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera put on a performance of her song “Like a Virgin”. And while they were performing, Spears kissed Madonna. Not to leave Aguilera out, Madonna kissed her soon afterwards. MTV didn’t show the kiss though, instead cutting to Spears’ ex, Justin Timberlake. And he wasn’t particularly enthused about the act.

Unexpected Stars At The Scooby-Doo Premiere

When you grow up in the spotlight locked in a contract to play the same characters in eight movies, you’re gonna need a break at some point. Emma Watson and Tom Felton decided to go check out the premiere of the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie. Regardless of the quality of the movie, it must’ve been refreshing to be out of the limelight for a few hours.

A Jenner Halloween

Growing up a Kardashian means you’re always going to be in the spotlight. And that can get even more difficult when you’re a Jenner. It really puts into perspective how much those girls have grown up. It feels like much time has passed since these little girls were dressing up for Halloween.

Red, White, And Blue

Britney Spears’s music had ample staying power, and a lot of people probably still listen to her greatest hits today. This is her on the cover of Rolling Stone, in red, white, and blue in front of the Star-Spangled Banner. The other major captions on the cover also puts into perspective a few other things that weren’t in the front of everyone’s minds at the time.

The Heartthrobs

Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, and Brad Pitt. For a long time, the three of them were considered teen heartthrobs. They’re still very attractive men in the present, but their youthful visages reminds you of the kinds of the roles they got back in the day. And it also makes you realize that they all know each other.

Hayek At The Versace Fashion Show

Salma Hayek was one of the most desired women in genre films in 90’s. Moving into the 2000s (and even the present), Hayek is still a sought-after actress. Not just for her acting talent, but just look at her. This was her at a Versace Fashion show. And she looks absolutely stunning.

Blow

While a star in Spain, Penelope Cruz hadn’t yet made it big in America. And that changed with Blow in 2001. Apparently one of the two phrases she knew how to say in English when she first arrived was “I want to work with Johnny Depp”. And as seen int he picture here, she got her wish. This is a photo from the set of the movie.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, And Their Kids

Pitt and Jolie are divorced now, but they certainly had a lot of children. A majority of them were adopted, with the exceptions being a pair of twins Jolie gave birth two in 2008. And photos of those twins were worth a lot of money to news outlets. Apparently photos of the twins could go for $14 million to People magazine.

Pastries In Toronto

Love it or hate it, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling had a lot of chemistry when filming The Notebook. It makes sense, since they started dating during filming. This is them having pastries in Toronto. They did eventually break up, but it was more mutual. No big arguments, just that they were too business to spend time with each other.

Paris And Kim Hit Up The Beach In Sydney

Before she was famous, herself, Kim Kardashian was more well-known for just being Paris Hilton’s friend. She even worked sort of as he assistant. While she cleaned out her closets and kept things organized, the pair did seem to be rather close. Here they are, arm-in-arm, as they visit a beach in Sydney, Australia.

Into The Blue

Rest in peace Paul Walker. Before the Fast and Furious films came out though, which were what made Walker a household name, he was in Into the Blue. It actually had several other famous actors from the 2000s, including Jessica Alba, Scott Caan, and Josh Brolin. And, of course, a lot of those actors still have careers.

Tyra Banks On The Catwalk

Tyra Banks’ modeling career was fantastic, and she got it so fast. She first became a model while she was still in high school. Pictured here is one of the many events she participated in, walking down the catwalk. This opened up her options, letting her move into acting and even producing her own show, American’s Next Top Model.
