Since the “#NoMakeup” movement started in 2016 its continued to go strong in Hollywood for a few years. More female celebrities have been choosing to ditch makeup while out in public or in private photos they share online.
Powerful women putting away their cosmetics has earned them plenty of fans, but some critics as well. Some even go as far as to say that the celebrities’ perfect, blemish-free complexions only make average people feel even worse about their looks.
Wherever you come down on the issue, take a look below at female celebrities who have bared their faces for everyone to see.
Alicia Keys
In 2016, the Grammy Award-winning musician opened up about her decision to stop wearing makeup.
“Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it???” she wrote.
Tyra Banks
Even before Keys went makeup-free, former model and “America’s Got Talent” host Tyra Banks posted a “#RawAndReal” selfie to Instagram in 2015.
Since then, she’s posted a decent amount of makeup-free selfies to her account — including a number of them showing off her natural hair as well.
“Some people might not like to see me in my natural hair and face, but this is as real as it gets.” she wrote in one.
Britney Spears
A few years ago, pop queen Britney Spears ditched her makeup on Instagram.
“This is the real unglammed me… so nice to meet all of you!!” the 36-year-old singer wrote to her fans.
Julianne Hough
While in public appearances Julianne Hough is often shown wearing makeup, this actress and dancer normally doesn’t wear any at all. Of course, she still looks stunning. There are plenty of photos taken by paparazzi of her in her unfiltered glory.
Carrie Underwood
Bonus points to Carrie Underwood for taking a makeup-free selfie while she was a “sweaty mess.”
In 2016, the 34-year-old country singer snapped a picture of herself while working out and showed it to the world.
Salma Hayek
In December 2015, Oscar-nominated actor Salma Hayek posted a selfie with “Wet hair, no make up, no filter, no retouch,” according to her Instagram post. The end of her caption read “… but very good light.” Chances are Hayek looks good in any kind of light. Since then, there have been many more photos of her without her makeup on.
Adele
Pop superstar Adele is known almost as much for her heavy eyeliner as she is for her powerful voice! But in 2016, she went makeup-free for some Instagram pictures, including one where she’s sporty a trendy top knot.
Gwyneth Paltrow
In 2016, on her 44th birthday, Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow went makeup free. “Embracing my past and future,” the actor and lifestyle writer said. You can really see the resemblance to her famous mother Blythe Danner in that picture!
Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana, best known for playing effects-covered characters in “Avatar” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” put away her cosmetics for an Instagram post in November 2015. “Sunday in Savannah. Perfect afternoon,” Saldana wrote. She ended the caption with “Mi manchi caro” (translation: “I miss you, dear”) tagging husband, Marco.
Christina Aguilera
While she may be known for rocking a bold lip and some heavy eyeliner, that doesn’t mean that she can’t pare her makeup down and still look absolutely gorgeous.
“I’ve always been someone that obviously loves to experiment, loves theatrics, loves to create a storyline and play a character in a video or through stage,” she told Paper Magazine. “I’m a performer, that’s who I am by nature. But I’m at the place, even musically, where it’s a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty.”
Aguilera then showcased her “raw beauty” by going makeup-free for the cover of Paper magazine.
Kelly Clarkson
The former “American Idol” winner posted an adorable selfie last year, celebrating “#NoMakeupMonday” … which she said she celebrates every day. And while she did admit she “filtered the $&@!” out of the photo, we’re not judging.
Drew Barrymore
On the day after Christmas in 2016, Drew Barrymore posted a makeup-free selfie from a workout class she was taking. And she’s taken the natural selfie idea even further, sharing a picture of herself that revealed her gray hair and unruly eyebrows. Fans loved it!
Shakira
On her 39th birthday, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer went makeup-free for her fans on Instagram. She kept it even more real by rocking a “birthday bun!”
Katie Holmes
The former teen star showed off sans makeup on Instagram in 2016. She signed her photo with a kiss face caption.
Eva Longoria
In a makeup-free selfie in 2016, actress Eva Longoria posed with an oversized bottle of wine and joked, “A three-liter of wine never hurt anyone.” Clearly she was having a relaxing day!
Lady Gaga
Known as much for her over-the-top style as for her music, Lady Gaga pulled back the curtain and went makeup-free on Instagram in 2015. “Long day time for a fresh face and a bath!” she wrote.
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato frequently posts photos without makeup to remind women that they’re beautiful just as they are.
“I think society tells us we need makeovers, but why can’t we embrace the beauty that we naturally have?” she said in an interview with Vogue. “I love makeup. I love doing my hair; I have extensions, but there’s a time and a place for everything, and natural beauty needs to be celebrated.”
She celebrated one feature, in particular — her freckles — in a no-makeup selfie she posted to Instagram. (Though we have to say: If she didn’t do anything to jazz up her eyes in this photo, we have some serious eyelash envy.)

“Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot showed her bare face in June 2017 after a “sleepless night” spent taking care of her two daughters. Wonder Woman, indeed!
Elizabeth Olsen
Speaking of super heroes, Elizabeth Olsen, best known for her role as Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, often makes appearances without her makeup on. You can barely notice the difference between her with and without it. She’s just absolutely stunning.

Chrissy Teigen doesn’t hold back when it comes to posting about her life on social media, and her realness definitely shines through.
