Gavin MacCall might be the odds-on favorite to win Father of the Year.
American Ninja Warrior, a TV show that originated in Japan, has become wildly popular in the United States in recent years. Super-buff athletes compete on what is essentially a giant playground obstacle course for adults.
So, MacCall thought, why not create a giant playground based on American Ninja Warrior for my 5-year-old daughter? Fun, right? Absolutely!
MacCall's dauther, Lylah, has been climbing all over the furniture in the house since she was little.
"The day she turned the green chair around and climbed over it was the birth of the first (Ninja Warrior-inspired) course," MacCall told USA Today. She spends plenty of time at the playground already and climbs on "the parking cement 'thingies,'" as she likes to call them.
After watching the show and seeing his athletic daughter climb all over the playground, he decided to build Lylah her very own outdoor obstacle course because it was "much more involved and would not fit in the house." And it's a thing of beauty.
Engineered specifically for Lylah, MacCall built the entire course with wood, shipping pallets and tree stumps. One of the obstacles is "Hanging Steps at Christmas Tree Corner," where every old Christmas tree Lylah has ever decorated is in the background as she swings from hanging step to hanging step. She even named one of the obstacles herself: "The Log Thingies." At the end of the course, she has to run up the famed warped wall to the top and press the buzzer.
MacCall has also created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money and help Lylah go through more obstacles in the future. With the money raised, you might see more awesome videos of Lylah well on her way to becoming the next Jesse Graf.
In the video below, you can hear MacCall commentating throughout her run with great anecdotes and "cheers" from the crowd of stuffed animals. It's adorable, especially when she's introduced. Check it out!
